Apologies if this is covered somewhere in the help section, but I wasn’t able to find it.
I’m dropshipping pet products from China with CJ Dropshipping and selling to the USA.
However, I am based in the UK (Scotland) - should the ‘shipping origin’ really be my address??
Shouldn’t it be the Chinese warehouse?

You’re absolutely right. CJ Dropshipping should be set as the shipping origin in your shipping profile as your products are stocked by the app. Wherever your inventory is stocked, that should be the shipping origin you use.
To know where your product is stocked or to stock your product at a location or app, you can follow the steps below.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Products.
- Click any product.
- If your product has variants, scroll to the Variants section, click the variant and then scroll to the Inventory section. Otherwise you can go straight to the Inventory section.
- Cjdropshipping should appear underneath Inventory will be stocked at. If not, you can click the dropdown list and select cjdropshipping.
- Click Save if you made any changes.
Once you know where your product is stocked or you have assigned a product to a location, you can add the location as a shipping origin with the following steps.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.
- Click Manage next to the shipping profile you’re working with.
- You can view the shipping origin by clicking Show details on the Shipping from section.
- If the location isn’t there, scroll down to the Not shipping from section.
- Click Add rates beside the relevant location.
- Select Use same rates a or Create new rates.
- If you select create new rates, you can refer to this guide to create shipping rates.
- Click Done.
Make sure to start with simple shipping rates. Shipping can be quite complex when it comes to dropshipping as products are being sourced from various places and products come in different shapes and sizes. Because of those reasons, shipping rates vary per product. While it seems ideal to figure out how to charge customers exact shipping rates, it’s best to come up with straightforward shipping so you can focus your time and effort into making sales first. To make it easy on you to set up shipping and for customers to understand it, you can establish an average shipping fee and set it as your flat rate. Hi Summer, thanks very much for that reply, it was very helpful. Unfortunately, I’m still having a little difficulty with my location.
Cjdropshipping shows under 'Inventory will be stocked at’ but in the ‘Shipping from’ section of ‘Shipping and Delivery’ it only allows ‘China warehouse’, (which is the warehouse address I managed to get from CJDropshipping a few days ago before you posted your reply).
I’ve tried changing it in ‘Locations’ - it won’t allow me to delete ‘China warehouse’, ‘cjdropshipping’ shows under ‘App Locations’ but when I try to select it I’m taken to their website, and if I enter cjdropshipping with ‘Add Location’ it expects an address and doesn’t associate it with the app.
I hope all that makes sense. I’m a bit stumped and don’t know what to do next. Help?

The fulfillment process of dropshipping apps varies, and while it’s not commonly needed to manually add a warehouse address as a shipping origin or location for an app, CJ Dropshipping’s process may be different. Did they advise you to add the “China warehouse” address? I recommend reaching out to them to see if this is the case to ensure that the fulfillment process is properly set up.
If they advise that you only need to set up their app as the shipping origin, you should be able to find the app in the Not shipping from section of your shipping profile in the Shipping and delivery settings, as illustrated by the image below.
If you’re unable to find it in the Not shipping from section, if you go to the Shipping from section and click Show details, can you see cjdropshipping there?
