Why are my shipping rates not calculating accurately?

Hello All

New to Shopify and am having shipping issues. We offer USPS Priority Express and we keep getting orders where the shipping paid for does not match the box we need to put the product in.

Recently, we got paid to use the medium box and had to use the large box instead. A difference of about $5+. I believe we have calculated the size properly and the weight. Any thoughts on what we could be doing wrong?

Michael

Hi @bigbottommarket ,

Is the medium box the one that is set up as the default package in Shopify? If so, that might be the reason you’re running into this issue. Unfortunately one of the limitations of Shopify Shipping is that while you can add several box sizes, only the one selected as the default is used for shipping calculations, even if you’re using different boxes for fulfillment. To work around this, you can set your larger box size as the default to ensure you’re not losing money. The downside to this, though, is that the cost at checkout may now be higher than it needs to be.

If you’re open to using a third-party solution, Intuitive Shipping lets you configure multiple package sizes, all of which can be used to calculate accurate live rates at checkout. In fact, if you’re looking strictly for accurate dimensional shipping - and you don’t have any rules-based shipping requirements, our Smart Boxing app might be an even better fit. Both apps can be downloaded and used in Testing mode for free for an unlimited time, so you can determine if either is a good fit for you. And both are fully integrated with USPS.
