Hey
My store uses the Debut theme. I have products with many variants. My older products have a functionality where if you click on a variant thumbnail, the variant is automatically selected in the dropdown, and displayed as the main image. The newer products are not doing that, even though they are all set up exactly the same way. Why does it work on some products, and not on others?
Topic summary
Issue: In a Shopify store using the Debut theme, older products auto-select a variant and update the main image when a variant thumbnail is clicked, but newer products with the same setup do not.
Likely causes: Differences in the product template assigned to those products or custom code changes affecting variant selection behavior. Debut is a vintage theme, so support is limited if customizations were made.
Suggested troubleshooting:
- Duplicate a product that works correctly and test its behavior on the storefront.
- Compare the assigned product templates between working and non-working products.
- Review whether any recent theme code edits could affect variant-thumbnails-to-dropdown syncing.
Status: No resolution yet. Further testing and comparison are needed; the conversation remains open awaiting follow-up.
Hi, @Woolstock !
Thank you so much for connecting with our network and sharing your question.
Mhm, there is no reason that one product would act different from another, unless it was using a different product template or there have been coding changes. One easy way to find the root issue is duplicating one product that is set-up correctly, and then viewing the behaviour that appears on the front-end.
While the Debut Theme is one of our vintage themes and support is minimal if coding changes have been made, we should still be able to figure out what is causing this.
I look forward to your reply,
