Why does CSV product import fail with 'Default Title' error?

Hi Shopify Community!

I am having an issue with uploading a CSV file for the first time on a new store.

The file is attached and I have followed several guides but the error below doesn’t make sense.

What I am trying to achieve…

A single parent URL with all variants listed, I have 3 options, length, size, and colour.

The total variant count should be 88 so shouldn’t be over the 100 variant limit.

What is confusing me is the variant title is showing as ‘Default Title’ when options are clearly specified.

I’ve not added images to the file as that will likely cause further confusion and I haven’t uploaded them to the CDN just yet.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Error:

Failed to import:

  • Line 2-88: Validation failed: The variant ‘Default Title’ already exists.

Hey CrypticShoebill,

Upon reviewing the attached CSV file, I would like to bring to your attention that the number of variants exceeds the limit of 100.

In the spreadsheet, I have identified three variant options:

  1. Option 1 - Length (2)
  2. Option 2 - Colors (49)
  3. Option 3 - Sizes (3)

According to Shopify, the total number of variants is determined by multiplying all the options, resulting in 294 total variants (e.g., 2 * 49 * 3), which exceeds the 100 limit.

Additionally, I noticed a couple of errors in your CSV sheet:

1. Repetition of color options - Please ensure the use of unique color options.

2. Change in Shopify Header - There appears to be an incorrect arrangement of the Shopify sample CSV header, which should not be altered.

For your reference, I have included a CSV file containing two variant options - 1. Length & 2. Colors. Consequently, the total number of variants will be (2 * 49 = 98).

I hope we tried to resolve your concern.
