Why does my banner image exceed 20mb on debut theme?

Hi there,
I am trying to upload image for banner on debut theme. I get the error saying the image size exceeds 20mb no matter what image size I try to upload. Is it a bug?

Shopify has set limits for images of 4472 by 4472 pixels (20 Megapixels) and file sizes of up to 20 MB.

Try resizing them via Shopify’s image resizer and upload once again.

As @Nick_Marketing mentioned above, I also suggest using Shopify’s online image resizer and optimizer tool to give your digital images the perfect size and configuration.

Even though the file size may be well under 20MB, the pixel dimensions may be over the allowable maximum. As a general rule of thumb, for best results, you should upload the highest quality image you have within the 20MB or 20-megapixel limit but at 72dpi. For product images, Shopify has an additional limit of 4,472 by 4,472 pixels.

Why should you resize your images?

  • It speeds things up: the larger the image file size, the longer it can take a load a page.
  • It shows what you want to show: if the image is too large or too wide or narrow for the particular application you’re using, the application often adjusts the image for you which may crop out an important part of the image you wanted to show.
  • It benefits Search Engine Optimization (SEO): properly sized (and named) image files help your website’s search engine performance.
  • It looks professional: properly sized images give your business a polished look.

And I had compressed the size of images using other platforms and still Shopify would not accept those image less than 1 MB either, please help!

Hey @Vemas ,

Have you ensured that your banner image does not exceed 4472 by 4472 pixels? You could try using this tool here if you are having trouble with the one above.

The Shopify image resizer is an easy option and works well in most cases. The majority of themes for the hero image are default for the following:

Desktop: 1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels height
Mobile: 300 x 50

The best free option for image resizing is good old Paint when the Shopify resizer is not suitable.

After using the Shopfiy reimaging tool, the file is still too big. This tool once worked for me.
