Hello! I have been getting an error message regarding the message asking me to update my tax information. My EIN supposedly does not match my business name. The “LLC” at the end of the name seemed to be the culprit, but none of the options worked other than sole proprietor. The error message has gone away now, but we are a multi-member LLC and I’d prefer the information to be accurate.
Aria here, I’m on the Social Care team at Shopify.
We can certainly escalate to our Payments department to get them to reach out to you to change your EIN.
I have been unable to find a Shopify store attached to the email address you use on forums.
Please DO NOT provide the correct email address publicly because this can jeopardize the security of your Shopify account. Instead, I need you to contact us via online chat, Facebook Messenger or Twitter DM and we will help you there.
I’m getting the same error message “Business tax id does not match company name. Please ensure that your legal business name is exactly as registered with the IRS. DBAs (“doing business as” names) can not be used in this registration.” When I input my legal Tax ID and EIN. I wonder if it’s because I’m choosing the wrong business type. We are a single member LLC owned by larger entity. I also get an error that says “Your account cannot be updated at this time” and I don’t know if that’s because I have tried too many times to get the information to submit?
