Why is my URL redirection not functioning properly in my online store?

Hello, whenever I type https://onthemuv.com/shop I’m redirected to my home page. I want to go to this link: https://onthemuv.com/products/minitread whenever I go to this URL https://onthemuv.com/shop.
Redirect from https://onthemuv.com/shop to https://onthemuv.com/products/minitread
What I did: Online store → navigation → create URL redirect and created redirect there but that’s not working. I read the documentation and it’s stating that URLs with prefixes /shop etc won’t work. How can I make it work? Anyone who cal help me in this regard?

Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I’m happy to provide some assistance with setting up URL redirects to get this resolved. To provide some context, URL redirects have a few requirements in order for them to work correctly. I recommend checking out our URL Redirects Documentation for more information on this, but those requirements include:

  • The redirect cannot begin with the following prefixes: /shop /apps, /application, /cart, /carts, /orders, or /services. This is a limitation with no current workarounds.
  • URL redirects will only work for making broken links (404 errors) lead to a working link. A working link cannot be redirected somewhere else.

It’s completely understandable how those requirements may not be ideal, but am happy to make note of those limitations with our Developers. We are always looking for ways to improve the platform and appreciate all feedback. While we cannot guarantee changes, the more notes received on a topic do lead to the likelihood of its possibility for change.

Thank you for your reply @Blair . Why in Shopify www.domain.com and www.domain.com/shop leads to the same thing? Both redirects to home page.

No problem at all, as I was happy to assist! To provide further context, you’re correct that both the domain URL and prefix /shop would lead to the homepage of the storefront. This would be expected behaviour of the platform but can completely understand how it may not be ideal. As mentioned however, I have provided this feedback with our Developers to ensure they are aware of the impact.
