Why is Shopify dropping Coinbase Commerce? Will a new system replace it?

I have the same question. It looks like there are two “Coinbase Commerce” payment gateways, will both be disabled or one maintained?

Can you let me know more about the information you’ve read about this? Did you receive an email or see a banner on your Shopify admin about this?

Thanks. A notice came out on the Adin page.

Stating:

  • "Update required for 1 or more payment providers.

    The following versions of these third-party payments integrations are
    not compatible with Shopify’s latest checkout. They will no longer be
    available after July 31, 2022: Coinbase Commerce (retired).

    Most payment providers have updated their integrations. You can now
    upgrade to the latest versions in payment settings.

    To learn more about this change, visit our community forum."

Hey Joseph!

Shopify is not dropping Coinbase Commerce. The whole point is that Shopify constantly update their 3rd party payment providers to ensure maximum security and safety to both merchants and clients. So instead of Coinbase updating their integration too to fit the new shopify API, they decided to deprecate it and provide a brand new one from scratch (which looks the exact same to us as end users)

Solution: Go to settings → Payments → choose Coinbase commerce (click Manage) → click Deactivate

and then go ahead and install the coinbase commerce integration from the start. Should work perfectly fine

For anyone that happens on this, Shopify says Coinbase will “retire” end of July but on Coinbase Commerce, they say it ends June 30th. I followed the instructions here and it worked to migrate over to the new setup: https://help.coinbase.com/en/commerce/managing-account/shopify-migration
