Why is there no option in the customer account page for them to choose marketing status?

I am once again blown away by how ‘basic’ functionality is missing from Shopify. The implementation of how a customer is supposed to change (or even know) their marketing subscription status is beyond me. From what I understand, they will only be able to set this at the time they setup and account OR when they place an order. This option is not visible to them at any other time?

Is this correct or am I missing something?

Why is it not shown on their account page with an option to change it?

I’ve done some searching and found these other related questions, none of which have really helped me solve this or explain why its not easily selectable by a customer …

Additionally, if a customer created an account but isn’t subscribed, trying to sign up for the newsletter again doesn’t as you would think ‘change their marketing status’ but instead gives an error saying they already have an account.

Would really appreciate any advice on how an existing customer can manage their marketing status as we are just about to start black Friday promotions and want to give existing customers to option to change their marketing status.
