Can I ask why you decided on that route rather than waiting for HMRC’s IOSS portal? (delayed portal)
We cant run a business without this number, especially that some courier will not even allow you to their site without the IOSS number, ie DPD
There is no news about HMRC and knowing them will be months…, I tried to get IOSS number from the uk, nobody helped and at least these guys helped. KPMG and Deloitte wants 2500$ for a year to help, so no.
Fedex will charge 40-180USD for clearing fees if we send anything with their system, and we cant afford losing thousands of funds on fees, we already had a lot of problem since January due to all couriers and the brexit situation
@Det742021 thank you for a clear explanation. Much appreciated. My clients are in the same boat, some have switched of EU sales due to the problems they have been having. I have found the cross border website now so I will check it out. I had been looking at https://www.taxamo.com/taxamo-assure-rmg which is slightly different as you send through their IOSS number although it allows for customisations.
Yes Taxamo is great as well, and also there was another company here who can help with a lot, I was thinking of Taxamo as connects to RM, but we have several couriers so we may use Taxamo as well and the 3rd company for shipping solution
At the moment we have a problem with shopify charging VAT over 135£ as well, waiting for support
Hi guys, I’m a sole trader based in Ireland, I have turnover less than €73k which means i should not collect VAT
Should I have an iosss number?
If I start collecting VAT I guess I should also get it back from fb ads! It can’t only go one way
is there anyone can help me? CJ is now charging directly 20% of the final price! So I would like to understand and to be able also to get my 20% back from my FB ads
many thanks
When I started this thread I never imagined the level of response and interest, and I have learned a lot, like I am sure many others have from the number of posts. I am a UK based business selling product around the world with order values that range from a few £ to say £300. Before BREXIT my European business accounted for about 25% of my turnover. Now it is about 5%. Trying to get back the lost 20% will be a challenge for me and I guess for everyone. I tried to sign up wit the Irish authorities but like a lot of others in this thread were declined. I was surprised like many others were that the EU didn’t have a mutual assistance agreement with the UK as nowhere in the documentation that I read was that mentioned. I am going to wait until the end of July before deciding what to do. There is mention of a UK IOSS portal, but if UK companies are forced to use an intermediary, surely that IOSS portal is only for EU/other nations use, and not for companies based in the UK? Getting the mutual assistance agreement with the EU enacted would seem to be the critical issue, or at least understanding if it will be enacted.
Anyone knows why shopify is still charging over the threshold? We followed all settings correctly, set up one stop shop.
Fully registered, all set up, but we keep charging customers over the threshold, so I don’t know what to do, shopify support was mainly useless sent me few manuals
we read many times, not very helpful. Anyone have the same issues?
@Det742021 I have set my companies shipping rates to EU based on order value of a max of £130 - if an EU customer tries to order more it will not let them order.
VERY IMPORTANT If you do the above you have to change 2 error messages that Shopify displays (under languages) else Shopify will give the messages that you do not ship to the country they are trying to order from!
Hope this helps as it’s working for us.
I need a solution that works properly for orders below and above the 150 Euro threshold, so I am going to wait for Shopify to fix things before I make what could be irreversible changes..
Just seen this morning that UPS are now requiring an IOSS number for european shipments, unless the value is over 150 euro or the shipment isn’t going to an end consumer.
So much for IOSS registration being optional…
We handle both in our system.
@Dbaca When uploading the file, does the SalesAmount include the shipping cost? Also should the VatAmount be included in that figure too? It’s hard to figure out from the example you provided in the uploading instructions. I can’t see how the VatAmount in the example can be 33 when the vat rate for Sweden is 25%. 25% of 123 is 30.75.
@Dbaca I have sent you a private message for my ioss number but haven’t heard back from you, not sure whom I can get in touch with for this issue? It has been more than a week we applied for the iOSS but so far not received anything.
Assume this is the same for everyone / the functionality is not working correctly for anyone?
I tried asking Shopify support if was correct and whether it would be updated but they didn’t really recognise the issue and said at checkout they would charge VAT based on the order threshold correctly. Would be interested to know if working for anyone as currently in process of registering for IOSS but may have to pause as would be headache to deal with.
@Dbaca I have now signed up with you guys and have my IOSS number. But question for you, and I ask here, as I suspect others may also want to know. We have two webs shops in Shopify. But both owned by one limited company, so one UK VAT account and one company number. So can I use the IOSS number in both websites? Your online application form only allows for me to add the one web shop.
Thanks!
They told me on Friday that it is a bug, quite a big bug I would say!!
@Dbaca Have emailed you guys already but not heard back yet. Can’t sign up on your system since it asks for our VAT number.
We are currently under the VAT threshold in the UK…yet UPS has made IOSS mandatory so we need the number in order to ship to europe. Can you help?
Hi, has anyone managed to set up Taxamo into their Shopify store?
I have yet to succeed in getting set up properly. I registered with Crossborderit but despite having an IOSS number now, I cannot see how to pay the tax etc, as other than dropping in the IOSS number into Shopify, nothing else seems to happen automatically.
So now I am wanting to see if I can try Taxamo to automate things. But cannot see how to install this to Shopify?
We use Royal Mail for shipping.
I have wasted days on all of this and still do not understand what to do!
Any advice on how anyone is automating things I would be grateful for advice.
Thank you
I’m not using Cross border IT yet (might take the plunge soon). My understanding is that you’re meant to be including the IOSS number with your shipments and then you manually submit reports to cross border IT (I think daily? Obv weekly would be much more manageable - would be great if they could comment here), so they can take care of paying the import VAT on your behalf?
Hi Callum
Yes, thank you! It would be great if we could get replies. I emailed them also, but guess they are too busy right now, which is understandable. Somewhere on this thread I read that Crossborderit had a Beta app. I would love to try that.
To start uploading daily into the system sounds horrific. As if we do not have enough commercial paperwork since Brexit!
Thank you for your response.
