Will Shopify payment be available in Turkey soon?

Topic summary

Core Issue:
Shopify Payments remains unavailable in Turkey, forcing merchants to rely on third-party payment gateways with significantly higher fees (up to 5%) and unfavorable currency conversion rates.

Merchant Impact:

  • Stores cannot be featured in the Shop app without Shopify Payments
  • Limited access to popular payment methods like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal (also unavailable in Turkey)
  • Turkish law prohibits selling in foreign currencies domestically, complicating international sales
  • Customers show hesitancy toward unfamiliar third-party gateways, resulting in lost sales

Current Workarounds:

  • Local gateways: IyziCo, PayTR, Garanti virtual POS, Vizovcc, Shopier (credit card only, high commissions)
  • Shipping: Yurtiçi Kargo (domestic), DHL or Ship Entegra (international)
  • Invoicing: E-arşiv fatura required for international shipments; proforma invoices needed for customs
  • Advanced solution: Register business entity abroad (UK/EU/US) to access Shopify Payments, though personal ID must match business registration country

Status:
Shopify staff have filed internal feature requests and confirmed discussions with Turkish trade officials in Toronto, but no timeline exists for availability. Merchants express frustration about competitive disadvantages and consider migrating to alternative platforms or establishing foreign entities.

Dear Emrah, thanks for your support and answer. I will do so. :+1: do you have a recommendation for shipping in Turkey and Europe? or this is also handled by IYZICO? Thank you

Merhaba Emrah Bey.

Benim Türkiye de şahıs firmam var ve shopify üzerinden satış yapmaya çalışıyorum . Faturalandirmayi nasıl yapıyorsunuz.?

There is no shipping on IYZICO. You can use Yurtiçi Kargo in Turkey. And many people use Ship Entegra in Turkey for international orders, never tried though. I prefer DHL.

Onu kendiniz hazirlayabilirsiniz. E-arsiv fatura mikro ihracat islemleri icin gerekiyor.

Check this solution. Similar case for different country.

If you have a Stripe account, you can accept payments in many currencies and payment methods supported by your Stripe account with this solution.

It’s 2025, and yet Shopify Payments is still not available in Turkey - even though it’s supported in countries like Lithuania. Honestly, this is incredibly frustrating. I have no clear idea why it’s still not available here. Is it because of challenges in Turkey? Government regulations? Or issues on Shopify’s end? Whatever it is, it shouldn’t be this hard at this point.> > Without Shopify Payments, your store can’t be featured in the Shop app, and many customers are hesitant or skeptical when it comes to unfamiliar third-party payment gateways. This directly leads to lost customers and lost sales. It’s a huge disadvantage in terms of competition, especially for those of us trying to grow serious online businesses.> > I also believe this is something the Republic of Turkey should step in and help resolve. If regulatory barriers are the issue, then relax them. If negotiations are needed, then have them. Shopify Payments uses Stripe infrastructure, right? Then why not invite Stripe in officially, get things moving, and support local entrepreneurs?> > Do we really have to open companies abroad just to access basic features like everyone else? It’s demoralizing. It makes me feel like we’re invisible, like we don’t matter. And it’s hard to make sense of it all.> > I just needed to say this out loud.

You can’t activate Shopify Payments in Turkey yet, and there’s no confirmed launch date. The best workaround is to use trusted local gateways like Vizovcc, IyziCo, PayTR, or Shopier, or register an overseas entity (UK/EU/US) to access Shopify Payments through that jurisdiction.

If you mainly sell abroad, using a multi-currency virtual business card or foreign payment processor (like Stripe via UK setup) can also simplify payouts and reduce conversion losses.
