I can’t use most payment gateways due to being in the health products sector, and certainly can’t use Shopify Payments, as Stripe doesn’t allow me to, for the very same reason.
I use PayPal with Shopify right now, as I have since the very beginning of my business (2009). Since the new PSD2 EU payment directive ‘PayPal Website Payments Pro (UK)’ is being shelved by PayPal as it doesn’t meet the authentication requirements of 3DS 2.0, therefore I’m left with using the rather rubbish ‘PayPal Express’ with my Shopify stores.
‘PayPal Express’ is cumbersome at best and I receive emails almost daily from customers complaining about that being the only payment option and have lost many customers because of it since having to ditch ‘PayPal Website Payments Pro (UK)’ a year ago.
My question is for someone at Shopify and/or PayPal that has some real knowledge of what’s happening going forward with PayPal integration at Shopify. Am I going to have to migrate to BigCommerce where I can have a proper ‘PayPal Checkout’ experience i.e. whereby customers can pay by card within the checkout flow rather than being redirected over to PayPal and having to mess around trying to locate and get through PayPal’s rudimentary Guest Checkout via ‘PayPal Express’? Or is there something better coming in the future between Shopify and PayPal?
I’ve been with both Shopify & PayPal for just over 13 years, so don’t want to have to migrate to BigCommerce (I’ve spent the last 2 years talking myself out of doing it), but this limitation of only being able to use the ‘PayPal Express’ integration is grinding me down to the point of wanting to migrate to BigCommerce and thus have more customers buying and less complaining and refusing to use ‘PayPal Express’.
Frustrating, would be an understatement.
