I would not start by matching prices automatically. Set a floor from landed cost plus the minimum margin you will accept, then compare only genuinely equivalent offers -same delivery, warranty, bundle, and stock position. Try this on a small group of visible SKUs first; often a clearer bundle or delivery promise protects conversion without training shoppers to wait for a discount.

Interesting tool. I’ll share what I see from the support side: most small merchants don’t track competitor pricing at all until they notice a sales drop, and by then it’s too late. The ones who do track are usually doing it manually with spreadsheets or sporadic Google checks, which is time-consuming and unreliable.

The auto-adjust with guardrails concept makes sense. The guardrails part is important because unlimited price wars destroy margins fast. Merchants need to know when they’re crossing a line where matching price doesn’t make business sense anymore.

One thing worth asking your beta testers: are they more interested in the alert part (knowing immediately) or the auto-adjust part? My guess is the alert is more valuable than automation for most, since pricing is often strategic, not just reactive.

there is no need to react to every price change we see. The competitor being cheaper for a day doesn’t mean you have a pricing problem. It could be due to clearing up the stock or may be running a sale.

But i would watch the pattern before changing my own. Looking at what the whole offer is from shipping, returns, bundle, reviews, etc these things are worth analysing before. Two stores can sell the same product at different prices and still be giving customers a very different deal.

Otherwise it is pretty easy to get pulled into a price war with someone who may not actually be taking your customers.

I don’t think I’d automatically match them. I’ve done that before and ended up chasing competitors around on price when the bigger problem was that I didn’t really know whether the lower price was actually affecting anything.

I pay more attention to which products are getting compared and whether the difference is showing up in conversion rate or revenue. There are some products where being $5 more expensive doesn’t seem to matter, while others are much more sensitive.

I’d also want to know whether the competitor is actually selling the same thing before reacting. Different shipping, bundles, warranties, stock levels, even slightly different variants can make a price comparison pretty misleading.

The idea of an alert is useful though. I’d rather get told “these three products are now significantly more expensive than the alternatives” and decide what to do than have the system automatically change prices. I tend to prefer that kind of setup with other store tools too, surface what actually needs attention and let me make the decision. My process is:
