Abandonned checkout emails

Hi everyone,

I need your help about my abandonned checkout emails.

To clarify the situation:

We want to send automated abandoned cart/checkout emails in two languages (FR and EN) via Marketing Automation.

  • Customers are automatically tagged based on their language (#wgfrwg and #wgenwg).

  • We created two separate automations (FR and EN) to test.

Our issues:

  • The abandoned cart/checkout emails are not being sent during our tests → we don’t receive anything, which prevents us from verifying the setup.

  • Because of this, we are not even sure if the language logic is working correctly.

What we would like:

  • Understand why no email is being received during tests with Marketing Automation.

  • Make sure an email is sent whenever a customer abandons their cart or checkout (at any stage, including payment).

  • Confirm that the language is handled correctly according to the customer tag.

Here is our workflow for abandoned checkout in FR

Hi, a quick note — Shopify’s abandoned checkout automation only triggers when a real checkout is abandoned, not during test orders. That’s why you’re not receiving anything in your trials. To properly test, you’ll need to create a real checkout, leave it without completing payment, and wait for the automation delay.

As for the language logic, your tag setup sounds fine. Once the emails are actually triggered, they should follow the correct workflow based on the tags.

Shopify Marketing Automation abandoned checkout emails only send for real abandoned checkouts not test orders or logged in as admin. Also test by creating a new customer profile, which uses the correct-language tag, abandon the checkout process without finishing payment. Make sure automation filters accord with tags prior to workflows becoming definitive. Hope this helps.
