Accurate Shipping Rates While Using Shopify Shipping

I’m trying to set up accurate shipping rates at checkout that match what I actually pay when purchasing labels through Shopify Shipping, but I’m running into a major issue.

From my understanding:

  1. Shopify Shipping provides discounted carrier rates but doesn’t allow for dynamic package
selection—it only calculates rates based on a single default package size.

  2. Carrier-Calculated Shipping (CCS) allows real-time rates from UPS, USPS, FedEx, etc., but this
does not use Shopify Shipping’s discounted rates.

  3. Third-party apps like Boxify allow for accurate package-based rate calculations but require
linking my own carrier account and do not support Shopify Shipping.

Right now, it seems impossible to get accurate shipping rates at checkout while using Shopify Shipping’s
discounted rates, since Shopify forces a default package size.

My Question:
Is there any way to ensure that checkout shipping rates match the actual label costs in Shopify Shipping
while considering multiple package sizes?

If not, is there any official solution or workaround for merchants needing both Shopify’s discounted
rates and accurate package-based rate calculations?

Hi @LearningVW !

I totally get where you’re coming from. Shopify Shipping’s discounted rates are useful, but they only apply based on a single default package size since Shopify doesn’t support multiple package sizes for rate calculations.

To get more accurate rates that factor in different package sizes, you’d need an app that supports multi-package shipping. Our Multi Carrier Shipping Label app can help with that. However, these apps typically require you to connect your own carrier account, and any discounts would depend on your carrier account rates. If you’re looking to ship with carriers like FedEx, UPS, and others, checking their rates based on your shipping country can give you a better idea of available discounts.
