Adding free gifts to the cart (if certain products for a certain value are in the shopping cart)

Hi,

what I’m trying to do is to create a discount code that will add free gifts to the shopping cart when the discount code is entered (provided that products from a certain category were placed into the cart for a certain amount). In other words:

1. A customer has any products from Category A for a total value of >1000€ in his shopping cart

2. He enteres the discount code and three gifts are being added to his shopping cart

What could be the best solution here? I found some old topics about this that are >2 years old but I assume that there must be some new solutions for this issue.

I think it is a great idea to offer free gifts to your customers as using a discount or allowing a free gift can definitely encourage a purchase! By default, we can create automatic discounts to allow your customers to receive the discount when they navigate to the checkout. For this situation, you could create a Buy X Get Y automatic discount to either offer a free product or a percentage off of the price of products.

With that being said, if you are looking for a bit more features when it comes to creating a discount or offering a free product to your customers, we can look towards using a third-party application. Hi Ollie, I checked the apps that you mentioned but none of them seem to have this feature. The feature of adding a free gift automatically to cart when the customer types in a discount code that is associated with the free gift. Let me know if there are any other apps or plugins that you could recommend which have this feature.

I suggest using the Checkout Upsell feature in the BOGOS App, as it can do exactly what you’re looking for.

With this feature, you can give free gifts to customers when:

• The total cart value exceeds a specific amount (in your case, >1000€)

• The products are from a specific collection (in your case, Category A)

• A discount code is entered at checkout

Here’s a guide on how to set it up in the BOGOS App:

1 .Create a Discount Code in Shopify

Go to Shopify > Discounts > Amount of Order

Set the Discount Code

Set the Discount Value to 0

In the Combinations section, tick Product Discounts

2. Set Up Free Gift in BOGOS

Go to BOGOS > Create Offer > Upsell Offer > Checkout Upsell

In Upsell Trigger, select Cart Trigger

Set the Cart Value Trigger with a minimum of 1000€

In Upsell Method, choose Manual

Select the products you want to offer as free gifts and set the Discount Amount to 100%

In Optional Advanced Configuration, enter the discount code you created in Shopify

• The customer has products from a specific collection or with a specific product tag added to his cart
• The Cart value exceeds €1000
• The discount code needs to be entered
