I have been having this issue regarding GST/tax being not being applied to product prices (only in checkout) and it is making me lose all hope.
Currently our Shopify prices that are set in the admin are excluding GST/TAX (10%), when our Australian customers arrive to our site they are shown all prices as EXCLUDING GST (on the product pages & collection pages). The message under the price at order confirmation then says “Taxes and shipping calculated at checkout”
When they get to check-out they are then shown the price INCLUDING GST as the final sale price. Sometimes this can cause a tax-shock and our customers will abandon the cart, also this is causing an issue with the Google price crawler as it arrives to the PRODUCT PAGE expecting to see GST INCLUSIVE pricing but instead it sees GST EXCLUSIVE PRICING (because GST is only added at check-out) hence Google disapproves our products from advertising one by one
However, due to dynamic tax-inclusive pricing our international customers don’t have this issue, they see GST included on both the product pages, collection pages and check-out (you can observe the effect by using the regional selector at bottom of site - change from AU to NZ)
Shopify has said that this behaviour cannot be added to our primary market, also there is no way for me to fix this issue as of yet. Some people have said to press “All products include tax” in the Tax settings, yet this does not solve issue, this just tells Shopify that the prices in the admin ALREADY include tax (which they don’t) - I cannot change our prices to include tax as in our brick-and-mortar we add tax at check-out, the only reason I wish to add tax before check-out online is to satisfy google price crawler, and stop customers clicking off due to “tax shock”
