Automatic receipt printing now very slow or does not work

Topic summary

A retail shop is experiencing significant delays (5-10 seconds) or complete failures when automatically printing receipts through Shopify POS. The issue has persisted for approximately one month and is causing checkout line backups.

Technical Setup:

  • Shopify POS version 9.2525.0
  • iPadOS 16.6.1
  • Star Micronics Bluetooth TSP100 printer
  • High-speed internet (3gbps), ruling out connectivity issues

Current Workaround:
Manually accessing the orders menu to print receipts for each transaction.

Proposed Solution:
A troubleshooting sequence was suggested: forget and re-pair the Bluetooth printer in iPad settings, restart the POS app, temporarily disable auto-print to process one manual order, then re-enable the feature. This should reset the print queue behavior.

Status: The shop owner will test the proposed solution and report results. The issue remains unresolved.

This has been going on for approximately a month now.

With “automatically print receipts” enabled on the POS app, it takes 5-10 seconds for the receipt to print, or else it does not print at all and we have to go into the “orders” menu, manually select the order and print the receipt from there.

We run a busy shop and this is really holding up the line, this needs to be resolved.

Our internet is 3gbps up/down, so our connection is not the problem.

Hi @sucralose

Maybe try this workaround: in your iPad’s Bluetooth settings, forget the printer, then re-pair it and restart the POS app. Also, disable “automatically print receipts,” process a single order manually and then re-enable auto-print. Typing these commands will reset print queue behavior and should speed up receipt responses.
