Brand Name Change, hence domain change

Hi, we have a store in Shopify already but recently went through a merger with another company. This means the brand name will now be a new one and hence we will have to register a new domain aswell. My question is, can I use my same Shopify store and replace the current website name with the new brand name?

Eg. Say my current brand website is www.cold.com and the new brand name suggested is ‘hot’. Can I change the domain to www.hot.com without having to do everything from the scratch?

Thanks, any help would be much appreciated

Hello @Aathiranair ,

This is Gina from flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $6Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot.

If your desired new brand name is “hot” and the domain www.hot.com is available for registration, you can change your domain from www.cold.com to www.hot.com without starting from scratch. Here’s how you can do it in Shopify.

→ Register the new domain

Purchase the domain www.hot.com from a domain registration service like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Shopify domain registration.

→ Add the new domain to Shopify

In your Shopify admin dashboard, go to “Online Store” and then “Domains.” Click on “Connect existing domain” and enter www.hot.com. Follow the instructions provided to connect the domain to your Shopify store.

→ Set the new domain as the primary domain

In the “Domains” section, locate the new domain (www.hot.com) and click on “Make primary.” This ensures that your store will be accessible through the new domain.

→ Update your store name and branding

In the “Settings” > “General” section of your Shopify admin, update your store name, logo, and any other branding elements to reflect your new brand, “hot.”

→ Customize your theme

Modify your existing theme or select a new one that aligns with your new brand. Adjust colors, fonts, and other design elements in the “Themes” section of your Shopify admin to match your new brand identity.

→ Redirect old domain (optional)

If you want to redirect traffic from the old domain (www.cold.com) to the new one (www.hot.com), you can set up URL redirects in the “Online Store” > “Navigation” section of your Shopify admin. This will automatically redirect visitors from the old domain to the corresponding pages on the new domain.

→ Review and update content

Go through your website content, including product pages, collections, and blog posts, to update any instances of the old brand name, URLs, and references to reflect the new brand, “hot.”

Remember to inform your customers and stakeholders about the rebranding and the change in the domain name so they can update their bookmarks and contact information accordingly.

Let me know if you require any further guidance.
