BUG DAWN Theme Sort by menu cannot be on black background with white text

Hello I found what I think is a bug in a few free themes from Shopify. I want to work with black background and white text on dawn theme. It all works fine except in the sort by drop down menu that cannot be changed to balck with white letters . The color background inside the menu remains white and only when you hoover over the text this is revealed in grey. All the other dropdowns menus I have tried like countries /region etc in other sections work as expected.

This also happen in other themes like studio.

Anybody has a suggestion on how to solve that? Maybe a CSS code that can override and fix this issue.

I hope they will be able to fix this is the future. I can work with light colors on the pages that have this sort by menu but i would prefer to have all in black for site consistency.

It’s not a bug. The theme uses a native select element which may be implemented very differently by different browsers. One example is the iPhone picker

Historically, there is no standardised way to apply styles to select, therefore a number of libraries were created to implement custom select replacement, like chosen, select2 etc…

Some themes use custom select replacements, but for the base free theme it’s only natural to use native select.
