Can anyone help set up PayPal Websites Payments Pro for a UK store?

Topic summary

A UK-based Shopify store owner is unable to set up PayPal Website Payments Pro for card processing after their previous processor stopped supporting Shopify without warning.

The core issue:

  • Shopify’s setup instructions reference “Payflow Pro API access” and specific credential generation steps
  • PayPal UK representatives deny that Payflow Pro exists or is available
  • The merchant is currently unable to accept card payments

Current status: The problem remains unresolved. One respondent suggested an alternative payment provider (WallidPay) claiming lower fees and better conversion rates, but this doesn’t address the original PayPal integration question.

Key context: PayPal Website Payments Pro availability and naming conventions may differ between regions, potentially explaining the disconnect between Shopify’s documentation and PayPal UK’s response.

  1. Click Profile at the top of the page.
  2. Click the Request API Credentials link in the Account Information column.
  3. Click the Set up Payflow Pro API access link (Option 2 – Payflow Pro). (If this option is not visible, then your PayPal Business Pro account has not yet been approved by PayPal.)
  4. Click the Create Access link. This generates the Vendor and Password credentials you should enter into Shopify.
