Hi this is my first post but it’s also very stupid. A person owes that I know owes me money but he said he can double it due to his inconvenience. He told me to pay it on his Shopify website link he will send to my email. I stupidly paid a lot and then I realized it was a scam because I’m dumb and desperate to get my money back. However his link that he sent has no cancel option. Furthermore, there was no title or description of the “item” he provided. I asked to get a refund back but he keeps delaying and making excuses, the order is #1011 and #1010. I was wondering if it’s possible to do a chargeback dispute and win.
Hi @SpeedyDino
I’m really sorry to hear about your situation. It sounds very frustrating. Here’s what you can do to initiate a chargeback dispute and increase your chances of winning:
- Gather Evidence: Collect all relevant information, including emails, screenshots of the transaction, and any communication with the person who scammed you. This will help support your case.
- Contact Your Bank or Credit Card Issuer: Inform them about the fraudulent transaction and request a chargeback. Provide them with all the evidence you’ve gathered. They will guide you through their specific process.
- Explain the Situation Clearly: When you contact your bank or credit card issuer, clearly explain that you were scammed. Mention that the Shopify link had no cancel option and lacked item details, and that the seller is unresponsive.
- Follow Up: Stay in touch with your bank or credit card issuer to ensure your case is being processed. They might need additional information or updates from you.
- Report the Scam: Consider reporting the scam to Shopify as well in this link(https://www.shopify.com/legal/tools/report-an-issue) . They might be able to take action against the fraudulent store.
I hope this is helpful.
Why does shopify not make it mandatory for the seller to must include a title/description of the item and a cancel option along the provided details that shopify will look over? This would make everything much easier for consumers and potentials victims like me.
Hi @SpeedyDino
First of all, sorry to hear that you’re a victim of a scam. But the good news is it sounds like you have a strong case for winning a chargeback with the bank that issued your credit card.
Fraud is a two way street, there are bad acting customers that would initiate refunds to themselves if every single order had the ability for the customer to cancel and refund after the physical goods have been shipped.
The process of disputing a transaction is called a chargeback.
A chargeback is when the customer claims with their credit card’s bank that the transaction was fraudulent, or the good was never received.
However, please note there’s a window of time where you can issue a chargeback - typically 30 to 60 days from purchase, depending on the bank that issued your credit card. So you’ll need to act sooner than later when filing a chargeback.
Please contact your bank to learn how to file a chargeback, and provide as much evidence to them as you can for your dispute for the highest chance of winning the chargeback and having your money returned in full.
Remember, Shopify is a marketplace. They perform some KYC (Know Your Customer) processes on merchants when they sign up, however there are occasions where merchants don’t act in good faith. They rely on customers like you to report bad acting merchants here: https://www.shopify.com/legal/tools/report-an-issue/report-a-merchant
I hope this helps,
