Can I offer Free Videos Without Being Charged?

I am very new to Shopify.

I would like to offer some free videos (about 50 to 100) on my website.

I do have a streaming service.

The only way I can seem to offer these videos is as a product.

As a product, I would be billed 30 cents every time someone viewed a free video. Ouch!

There must be something simple that I am missing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,

You could create a new page and add these videos on that, and perhaps somewhere a download button.

Regards,

Gabriel

Hi @Blues52 ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I’m happy to provide some assistance with offering free digital products to customers, to ensure this gets resolved. To confirm I’m fully understanding, are you looking to simply add videos to the shop (i.e on the home page) or provide videos to customers free of charge to download?

If you’re looking to provide a download option to customers, I would recommend checking out the Shopify App Store for a digital file app. Digital Downloads is a great example, where its app is free to use and does not include fees per view. This will allow you to add video as a digital product that can be purchased free of charge.

Alternatively, you can look into adding another page as @GabrielS has mentioned. This will allow for you to attach videos for viewing, as opposed to adding them as a product onto the shop. For more information on creating a page, you can check out our Pages Documentation for those steps. It outlines however, you can:

  • Head to Online Store > Pages, from the Shopify admin.
  • Select Add Page, in the top right hand corner.
  • In the Content section, select the insert video button to add media to the page.

  • Click Save.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns, as I’m happy to assist!

Thank you Gabriel.

I have been trying to put all the downloadable Free videos on a separate
page.

Initially that was how I had the site set up in Weebly.

With Shopify:

When I create a new page I have the option of making it a “Default” page
or a “Contact” style page.

I choose “Default.”

I get a box labeled “Title” at the top and “Content” at the bottom.

The content section will allow me to enter HTML and so I can enter one
video there.

It seems I get one video per page.

I can work with that. I’ll just create a page with a picture of each
video and a corresponding link button to each of the other 100 pages,
each of which will hold a single free video.

heh…

I’m just very new and figured I must have missed something.

I was pretty sure I could just drop them all on the same page.

Thank you.

Thank you for your quick response.

You are correct. They would be non downloadable.

I think I’m going to take Gabriel’s advice and create a page for each video.

Back to learning the ins and outs of Shopify.

Thank you both!

Another alternative would be to switch the editor to HTML and add code (below, an example of a youtube video).

<iframe width="420" height="345" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/tgbNymZ7vqY?autoplay=1&mute=1">
</iframe>

Further modifications such as the possibility to have it downloadable is doable, however, you may consider hiring a developer.

Cheers!

I made a separate page for each video and then linked the videos to a main page. It worked great.

You guys are way better than the chat box or phone I can never find. heh

It looks like dropping in on the community is the way to go, and probably what customer service is hoping for.
