Can I recover a theme from an inactive online store?

Is it possible to recover a shopify theme that I bought on a store that is now inactive, in order to use it on another account.

It really depends on how long ago the store was deactivated. But you can email merchant support, they can look into the account.

That is a great question! Thanks for posting it. When you purchase a theme from the Shopify theme store, it can only be used on one store at a time. This is due to the licensing put in place by the third party theme developers.

The license itself doesn’t transfer. However, we do offer a work around. The process entails accessing your original store to remove the theme, then repurchasing the theme on your new account. You will then be refunded for the original purchase.

As this process requires authentication on both accounts, you will need to reach out to one of our live advisors. Please visit our Help Center and log in to your account to create a support request through live chat, email, or callback. Once you have logged in to your account, type your request in ‘Ask about a topic’, scroll down to ‘Get Support’, and then click ‘Continue.’

Another option, just so you are aware, is to reopen your original account. Then, delete any information from your previous business, and start fresh.
