Hello, so I am 17 years of age wanting to make a Shopify account, I have registered my business, and got my EIN. Obviously if I use my date of birth Shopify terms of service age requirement is 18+, What will occur if I use my Sole Proprietorship EIN under MY name, and use my guardians as the owner and use their SSN. Would I have any issues?
Hi, @Cerva .
To clarify, the account owner of a Shopify store must be over 18, however staff members and employees of the store are allowed to be minors. Because of this, if you’re under 18 you’ll need to do the following:
- Change the account owner of your store to your parent or guardian by following the steps found here.
- You’ll then be able to leave yourself listed as a staff account for the store, as described here.
- Your parent or guardian will need to add their credit card as the billing method for the store, which they can do by following these instructions.
Once all of the above has been completed, please get in touch with our Live Support team so that we can guide you with your next steps and clarify any further account-specific questions you have. Our internal teams are best equipped to support you with this matter, so please login to your store via our Help Center here to start the contact process. Once logged in, select a topic that best fits your query or situation. From there, you’ll be taken to a page with a list of relevant support articles, and you can scroll to the bottom of that page to select your preferred contact method with our team. Our team can further assist from there.
