Separate payments is fine and what we want.

We want to have separate stores but coming off the same domain.

for example our existing is: www.example.com

but we want to use www.trade.example.com as a subdomain for the new store.

thus far, we have been told this may not be possible

yes, they said it may not be possible.

But i have seen some articles saying its possible so thought id ask in the community.

Possibly, if you move your DNS hosting from Shopify to a separate provider, like GoDaddy, you should be able to configure DNS properly.

I may be mistaken, but I had a similar configuration some time ago when Shopify was not providing domain registrations.
