Can I use my passport or driver's license as proof of address for Shopify in the UK?

Hi there,

Shopify is asking me for a Utilities bill which i cannot provide as i dont pay the bills in my house, i have other forms of ID like My passport or Drivers License which have proof of my Address, is this okay to send instead? I live in the UK

Hi, @Edexel

Thanks for posting to the forums. That’s a great question!

Unfortunately, our team will need a corresponding document to go along with your identification. While it doesn’t necessarily have to be a utility bill, it will need to be a formal document or invoice to your address. For example, a phone bill, or bank statement.

While this process may seem daunting, we are required by law to verify that the businesses on our platform are operating from their stated location. This is due to different regions having different regulations surrounding payment processing and taxation.

I hope this helps!
