Hi,
I want to start selling through shopify and i’m located in IRAQ and have an ltd that is based in the UK and also my targeted market will be the US and EUROPE, will shopify payment allow me to make it as my payment gateway and if not is there an alternative?
Topic summary
A business owner in Iraq with a UK LTD company wants to sell to US and European markets through Shopify and is asking about payment gateway options.
Key Requirements:
- Shopify Payments availability depends on the legal business address registered in Shopify settings, not the target market
- A valid UK address would allow access to Shopify Payments
Main Challenge:
One respondent notes that Shopify Payments typically requires both a registered business AND residency in that country. Since the owner resides in Iraq (not the UK), verification may be rejected despite having a UK LTD.
Alternative Solutions:
- Third-party payment gateways available for Iraq-based accounts
- Alternative or manual payment methods
- WallidPay specifically recommended as supporting international founders with cross-border businesses
Status: The discussion provides guidance but highlights potential verification issues. The owner would need to either establish UK residency documentation or use third-party gateways designed for international sellers.
It depends on the region your Shopify account is been opened.
But there is always alternative payment option
Hi @Ali_wisam !
Shopify Payments is available depending on the country in which you are doing business. If you can provide a legal address in a country that provides Shopify Payments and this information is listed in your Shopify settings, the gateway will be available to you. Your targetted markets will not play a role in whether or not your can use Shopify Payments. If you have an address in the UK that you can link to your account, you can follow this guide to set up Shopify Payments on your store.
Should your only address be within the country of Iraq, you will be able to select a third party payment gateway available in your region here. You can follow this guide to configure a third party payment gateway of your choice.
Otherwise, you can look into setting up Alternative payment methods or Manual payment methods depending on what works best for your business.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Cheers!
Shopify Payments will likely not be available to you in this case — and here’s why:
Although you have a UK LTD company, Shopify Payments requires that the account holder also be a resident of the country where the business is registered (in this case, the UK). Since you’re based in Iraq, and not a UK resident, Shopify Payments will typically reject your verification due to lack of a UK residential address and ID.
Alternative Recommendation: WallidPay
Since Shopify Payments isn’t an option, a reliable alternative is WallidPay. It’s a third-party payment gateway that:
-
Supports international founders (like yourself in Iraq with a UK LTD)
-
Works well with high-risk and international dropshipping models
-
Offers fast payouts and doesn’t hold your funds like Shopify Payments
-
Easily integrates with your Shopify store
Check out WallidPay – It’s designed for cross-border businesses and has a smooth onboarding process without requiring you to be physically located in the UK or US.
