Can I use Shopify Payments if my supplier is based in Africa but I'm in Canada?

Hi guys,

I’m based in Canada and I have a supplier in Africa who is going to prepare and deliver the products that I’m going to sell online on my Shopify store. Can I use Shopify Payments? When I set up the address in the store details as the country in Africa it does not give me Shopify Payments as it is not support. When I set it up to Canada it does.

I’m not sure which address I need to have there. I only sell products online, receive money on my canadian bank account and the supplier will be sending them to the customer. Thanks

Hi @FashipShop !

This is a fantastic question, and thanks for reaching out here!

You can sell products using drop-shipping all around the world and be based or live in Canada. With Shopify Payments, you must be operating your business from one of the eligible countries in order to use Shopify Payments. So in your case as you’re based in Canada **you can sign up for Shopify Payments as shown here **and continue to drop-ship your products as normal.

We would require proof of a physical address, business registration, and bank account, in order to approve you for Shopify Payments Canada.

Thank you Maz but the problem with this is that I need to change my store address to Canada and this is where it gets complicated. Changing to Canada is allowing me to use Shopify Payments but changing it will also change the shipement address no? Again, It is kind of dropshipping and customer are from all over the world and paying directly and the supplier in Africa is receiving the orders from me and shipping to the customer directly and getting paid from me.

Hi, @FashipShop .

That’s a great question. When you set your store settings to Canada, you can still have a shipping location in Africa if you choose to do so. If your supplier from Africa will ship the items you can simply use their address for that shipping location.

You’ll also want to set up a custom fulfillment method with your supplier so they can automatically receive those orders with an order summary and shipping details.
