Can we disable Shopify email notifications?

Hi,

I am trying to set up a process of automatic welcome emails, review gathering emails and troubleshooting emails. I read somewhere that Shopify sends a series of emails automatically and these can’t be disabled, is this true? I don’t want to create a series of automated emails elsewhere and have customers get double of each due to the automatic ones Shopify send.

If this is true, I can’t understand why services such as Klaviyo exist if Shopify automatically sends emails that cannot be disabled. Ultimately you are spamming a customer at that point?

Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I’m happy to provide some assistance with notifications and get this resolved. While the ability to disable notifications is limited to those on Shopify Plus, you can certainly use apps such as Klaviyo to leverage automated notifications.

Klaviyo specifically, offers the ability to integrate a few automated emails, such as shipping updates and password resets. To set this up, I recommend checking out their Personalize and Export Shopify Notification Email documentation for more information on those steps.

As I can completely understand how this may not be ideal, I am happy to share your feedback with our Developers. We’re always looking for ways to improve the platform, but can refer to our Notifications Documentation for a list of automated emails that are currently sent to customers. Newly created customer accounts for example, will automatically receive a welcome email.

Thank you for getting back to me with such a detailed response. What is the situation for Shopify partners that are listing an App on the App Store please?

The only reason I am persistent with our own email flow is we have an existing process set up elsewhere that would be great to integrate with Shopify and replicate.

Thank you for the prompt response, as I’m happy to provide some further insight on getting an app available on the Shopify App Store. If you are interested in developing and adding an app to our app store, you can check out our Building an App Guide for those steps.

Alternatively, you can look into creating a Custom App that would be exclusive to your shop. This would allow you to connect the app through Shopify’s API to access data and information.

Think you misread my response there. The context is still around email notifications but from an App Store developer’s perspective. There is little to not help articles available for those who are Shopify Partners and are producing/have an app on the app store.

I am still interested to know, as brand with an app on your app store, how can we manage email notifications any differently to a Shopify store/Shopify Plus customer. Can we disable the payment confirmation emails as well as the account welcome ones or are we restricted like every one else?
