Can you host a Shopify store on your own servers?

Hi All,

I am writing to seek guidance and assistance regarding the possibility of hosting a Shopify store on my hosting provider’s servers. Unfortunately, due to restrictions in my country, accessing shopify.com is currently blocked, which prevents me from utilizing the Shopify cloud hosting service for my online store.

In light of this situation, I would greatly appreciate any insights, recommendations, or experiences from fellow community members who have encountered a similar challenge or have successfully hosted a Shopify store on their on on-prem servers. I am specifically looking for guidance on:

  1. The feasibility of hosting a Shopify store on VPS.
  2. Technical requirements and specifications necessary for a smooth operation.
  3. Any potential challenges or considerations to keep in mind.
  4. Recommended steps or best practices for setting up and managing a on-prem Shopify store.

Shopify is by definition a self-hosted solution, which means it’s usually impossible to host it on one’s own server or use any other external hosting provider.

But there is an exception – headless Shopify, which allows for more flexibility.
