Changing default sort on main product results page

Hi there! I use Shopify Dawn theme and the default sort when viewing all products (not within a collection) is ‘alphabetical’. I would like to instead change the default to be ‘newest first’ but can’t see where in the code is the best place to make this change. Could someone point me in the right direction?

The best workaround for this would be to create an “All Products” collection in which you can change the sort order, without it defaulting to alphabetical. To ensure each product is added to this collection automatically, add every ‘product vendor’ within your store via the condition as shown below:

As you can see, it’s not for a collection but rather for all products shown without being in a collection. Any other tips here?

Thanks for sharing your all-product page! I had the exact same issue with my store and unfortunately, without adjusting the code, the only workaround for this is what I mentioned above. Instead of linking “All products” into your navigation, you will need to create a collection that includes every single product and then add this to your navigation in replacement of what you currently have. Does this make sense?

Ah, that worked! Didn’t know how to change the navigation for “Shop All” to instead return a collection (vs. all products). Appreciate the help!
