Csv file

I downloaded a csv file of my products. There are about 100 products. I supplied this csv file to my customers so they can upload it to their store. It never works for them. I tried to use the same csv file for my godaddy store. Again it didn’t work. It said CSV file is missing one or more column. I have no idea how to read csv files and have no idea what the problem is. Can anyone help?

Hey @boneinspector ,

Thanks for reaching out!

Are the customers uploading products from one Shopify store to another? When importing products, Shopify expects a specific format for the CSV file.

The first row should contain column headers (e.g., “Title,” “Description,” “Price,” etc.). Subsequent rows represent individual products, with data corresponding to the appropriate columns.

You can learn more about CSV formatting and solutions to common product CSV import problems right here: https://shopify.link/mz2P.

They are trying to upload it to shopify, godaddy and many more. I even tried using it to transfer between two shopify stores. It does not work! It is your spreadsheet, if it doesn’t work then it is a shopify problem. Not a me problem. I spent an hour trying to get support yesterday via chat. No help.

Thanks for following up with us here, @boneinspector ! A CSV that’s been exported should be able to be imported back into Shopify with no problem, as any CSV exported from Shopify already has it’s headers and titles set to be the acceptable formats. I wouldn’t be able to advise on why the CSV doesn’t import on platforms outside of Shopify (perhaps they require different column titles) but your client shouldn’t be having issues re-uploading to Shopify.

Has your client described to specifically what errors they’re getting when trying to import the CSV to their own store? Are they getting any other errors other than a mention of missing columns? Something you could try here would be to advise your client to do a product CSV export from their own store, just so they can have the template CSV file, and then they can copy the information from your CSV over to that template column by column, which will ensure that they don’t miss a column, or can help them identity what column may be missing.

If your client has issues with this process after trying the troubleshooting steps above, then have them get in touch with our Authenticated Support Team via our Help Center. In order to connect with one of our advisors, you’ll need to have your client start a conversation with our AI Assistant, and they will need to outline the issue for the AI, and request support from an advisor. We’ll want to speak to them directly so we can authenticate them, access their store, and examine the CSV file they’ve been provided so we can identify any potential issues.

It doesn’t even matter that my customers can’t use it. Neither can I. Between shopify stores. Shopify customer service is horrible. I wish I had never never used shopify for my website. It has been a dumpster fire since day 1.

We appreciate that feedback, @boneinspector . If you’re unable tio import this CSV to a seperate Shopify Store, then I recommend troubleshooting the steps I advised that you suggest to your client to see if you can identify what the issue with the CSVs columns are. If you’re unable to determine the issue, use the steps I outlined to get connected with our Authenticated Support Team so we can access your account and review your CSV file.

I already tried to figure it out. I’m not techie and I already talked to support. No help.

I have already reached out to support, they did not help. I already looked at the links you gave me and that didn’t help and you didn’t help. Really awesome customer service…not.
