Currency & language according to location

Hello my favorite community!

  1. So im currently setting up my store that i will be launching soon.

My main market is Sweden to begin with, however i will also try selling to other markets. Therefore when a customer from sweden visits my site i want the language and the currency to automatically adapt to local.

And when a customer outside sweden visit my site i want the language to be in English and the currency to adapt according to their local currency. Yes, i know there are apps where you can pick your currency, but i want the currency to change automatically, and also in the check-out.

How to i proceed with this? Is there an app? I know there are apps for translation, however is it possible then to write the translations yourself since google translate is not allways the best. :slightly_smiling_face:

  1. Also, i want to have my products in category exactly the same as this shop https://www.materiol.com/ with everything gathered in one tree and with headlines like “by usage” “by room” etc. What app can i use for this?

My store url: https://mycomfycasa.com/

Kind regards,

Christopher

This reply is to give you feedback, if you are planning to use Google Shopping.

If you automatically change the currency and or the language based on IP, then Google will suspend your account. Google expects to the same exact content regardless where the user is located.

So the only solution is to use a manual redirection, meaning if in any case a French user is on your site, you allow them to change the language and or currency using a drop down menu.

This comment is to give you a heads-up, as a lot of merchants enable all of this, then realize they get suspended.

There are a lot of translation apps as you mention, for example weglot allows you to manually type your content.

And I am sure there are a lot more apps, just check the description of the app, it should be mentioned if they support it.

Hello, @Crippmeister .

Thank you for reaching out and posting this question!

I’m excited to hear that you’ll be launching your store soon and I think your store looks amazing! I love the use of sections on your homepage, as it gives the page a nice variety of content for the viewer. Since removing the “Powered by Shopify” message from the footer is a common request and it can add to the professionalism of your store, would this be something that interests you? Also, have you considered using something like Shopify Inbox to interact with customers on your store?

  1. If you’re looking for a way to detect the customer’s location and display the language/currency for their location, then you can do this through the use of one or two geolocation apps. For example, you can use our geolocation app to detect the language, or you can use a third-party app, like Language Translate & Currency, which can detect both and provide translation for your store. However, it’s important to note that currency converters can only display the approximate exchange rates, as orders on your store would be processed with the default currency of the store.

That being said, most language translation apps, like Language Translate & Currency, allows you to write your own translations. You can also try Langify or T Lab - AI Language Translate for translating multiple languages. If you need any help with a third-party app, the app developer is always available to assist you - you can reach out to them directly through the contact information found in the Support section of their app’s page.

  1. I’ve taken a look at the example (www.materiol.com) and it looks like they are using something like a mega menu. Mega menu is included with some third-party themes, or it can be installed separately through a third-party app - such as Mega Menu or Mega Menu & Navigation.

I’d love to hear more about your business! What kind of products do you sell? Also, since you’re almost ready to launch, do you have a marketing plan prepared for the store?
