Hi, I faced a serious problem. I’m doing dropshipping in another country but I set my location to the US. I clicked on Activate Shopify Payments and it’s asking me to fill in information I don’t have. How do I deactivate shopify payments and reset my location? Please help.
Topic summary
A dropshipper mistakenly activated Shopify Payments with a US location while operating from another country, and now cannot complete the required information or change their store location.
Core Issue:
Shopify locks the business location once Shopify Payments is activated, preventing country changes.
Recommended Solution Steps:
-
Deactivate Shopify Payments: Navigate to Settings > Payments > Shopify Payments > Manage > Deactivate. If the deactivation option isn’t visible, contact Shopify Support for manual removal.
-
Update Store Location: After deactivation, go to Settings > Store Details and change the country to the actual business location.
-
Set Up Alternative Payment Provider: Use PayPal, Stripe, 2Checkout, Payoneer, or WorldPay depending on country availability. Configure through Settings > Payments > Third-party providers.
-
Contact Shopify Support if needed: Request assistance via live chat or email to disable Shopify Payments and reset the location if self-service options don’t work.
Status: The issue remains unresolved pending the user’s action on the provided steps.

Since Shopify does not let you change the business location after activating Shopify Payments, you’ll need to deactivate Shopify Payments and set up a different payment provider. Follow these steps:
Deactivate Shopify Payments
To remove Shopify Payments from your store:
- Log in to your Shopify Admin.
- Go to Settings > Payments.
- Under Shopify Payments, click Manage.
- Scroll down and click Deactivate Shopify Payments.
- Confirm the deactivation.
If you don’t see the deactivation option, you must contact Shopify Support to request manual removal.
Change Your Shopify Store Location1. Go to Settings > Store Details.
- Under Store address, change the country to your actual business location.
- Save the changes.
Shopify might restrict changes if payments were already activated. If you can’t update it, you’ll need to contact Shopify Support.
Set Up an Alternative Payment Provider
Since you can’t use Shopify Payments in the wrong country, use an alternative like:
- PayPal (Easy setup)
- Stripe (If available in your country)
- 2Checkout, Payoneer, or WorldPay (For international payments)
To set up:
- Go to Settings > Payments.
- Click Choose a Provider under “Third-party providers.”
- Select and set up the best option for your country.
Contact Shopify Support (If Needed)
If Shopify won’t let you change your location or remove Shopify Payments, contact Shopify Support:
-
Go to Shopify Help Center.
-
Select Get Support > Live Chat or Email.
-
Explain:
- “I activated Shopify Payments but selected the wrong country. I need to remove Shopify Payments and change my store’s country.”
-
Shopify will disable Shopify Payments for you and allow you to reset the location.
Hope my solution will help you resolve the issue.
