Anyone have any idea what to do when the descriptions for products are either non existent, or grossly incorrect and ambigious. I’m mostly referring to CJ Dropshipping, all the items I’m listing are jewelry. I’ve contacted CJ several times and either get a reply such as " what is the SKU", or copy from Aliexpress. Any ideas or someone who had this issue and resoled it, would be appriciated. I have about 100 items I have to add descriptions to.

A product description is the marketing copy that explains what a product is and why it’s worth purchasing. The purpose of a product description is to supply customers with important information about the features and benefits of the product so they’re compelled to buy.

As you know, a well-written product description has the power to move your customers to the checkout. Your store will more likely convert the casual browser by adding creativity and product benefits into your product description.
For that reason, I would always recommend writing your product description. If that means cutting your product number to half initially, I would still recommend it. It’s still better to have fewer products than tons without an eye-catching description.
The goal of the product description is to provide the customer with enough information to compel them to want to buy the product immediately. Therefore, you need to answer every question a customer may have, such as:
- What problem does your product solve?
- What do I gain from using your product?
- What separates your products from others on the market?

I agree 100% that a good description is needed, however my problem is that I don’t have the products basic information, this is the case mostly with items from CJ Dropshipping. I’m selling all jewelry and if I don’t have the basic information like metal type, gem stone type, measurement, etc., then I can’t write an accurate description. It’s taken me several hours just to gather information on a few of the product scouring the Internet. This is not an efficient or effective way to work.

I completely understand how it can be frustrating. I came across the exact many times.
To have a successful business, you need to find a reliable supplier. With thousands of sellers and products on the marketplace, I would recommend searching for a different supplier that provides more information on their products. If you can’t find the same products in others, the best action is to reach out to that supplier and ask for more information. That way, you will also gauge their responsiveness.
However, if you still want to stick with the current supplier, I suggest contacting them directly rather than the CJ Dropshipping support team. This is because the supplier should have more information about the product they are selling.
There are some not such great suppliers and many great ones in any marketplace. I suggest using only top-rated suppliers for their products and customer support. Always ensure to stick with reliable suppliers with great feedback in most aspects.

You shouldn’t rely on the product description provided by your supplier or manufacturer. As most of this are generic and some are just technical specifications. Since this is dropshipping, take note that other merchant are selling the same product and may be using the same description to market it. You need to customize the description if you want to stand out and compete with them.
