Hey @JKE2 ! I run a Digital downloads app for Shopify - Filemonk - and I’ve helped many merchants get set up with selling digital products. For automatic digital product delivery, I highly recommend using an app like ours. It takes the pain out of ensuring customers get their content, and you can focus more on the other parts of your business like marketing.
Filemonk is super easy to set up to sell digital products -
Add your files to the app
Link each file to a product (you can also do it in bulk)
Enable email delivery or add a “Download” button to Thank you page.
That’s it. Whenever your customers buy a product from your store, Filemonk will automatically send a link to their digital downloads via email or make it available on Thank you page. We have a generous free plan, and plenty of features to help you with content security! (IMO one of the most important things for stores selling digital products)
@STOQ, Filemonk sounds like a great solution for seamless digital product
delivery. I’m currently exploring ways to integrate digital products into
my Shopify store, and automation is definitely a key factor. Security is
another big concern, so it’s good to know Filemonk has features to protect
content.
Hey! I can share some quick tips for optimizing digital product sales on Shopify:
Store optimization: Mark all products as “digital” and disable shipping at checkout. Use product descriptions that clearly state instant delivery and what files customers receive.
Automatic delivery: You’ll need a dedicated app for this - Shopify doesn’t handle it natively well. I built Alva Digital Downloads which automates delivery via email + customer accounts. Key is ensuring the app delivers even if payment takes time to process.
Payment gateways: Shopify Payments works great for digital products. Just enable “manual capture” if you want to review high-risk orders before fulfilling (helps with fraud).
Conversion tips: Show file formats/sizes clearly, add download previews if possible, and make sure customers can re-download from their account (builds trust). Clear FAQs about delivery help too.
Email collection: Use the checkout for this, plus consider offering a free sample/preview in exchange for emails on product pages.

What type of digital products are you planning to sell?
@JKE2 Perfect I can definitely help you with this. Selling digital products on Shopify is a bit different from physical products, so you’ll want your store flow set up specifically for instant delivery, simple checkout, and repeat sales. Here’s how we can proceed step by step:
Shopify Setup for Digital Products
1. Optimize Store for Digital Sales (No Shipping)
Disable shipping for digital products:
In Products → Edit product → Shipping, uncheck “This is a physical product.”
Create a Digital Products collection so it’s clear what’s downloadable.
Update your theme wording (e.g., change “Shipping” to “Instant Download”).
2. Automatic Delivery of Digital Products
Use an app like:
Shopify Digital Downloads (free, but basic).
SendOwl (paid, but more professional — license keys, PDF stamping, video hosting).
Sky Pilot (great for larger files).
These apps automatically send your customers an email with the download link right after purchase.
3. Payment Gateway for Digital Downloads
Standard gateways (Shopify Payments, PayPal, Stripe) work fine.
If you expect global buyers, Stripe or PayPal is recommended since they support instant payments and refunds.
For recurring content (like memberships), consider Shopify + Recharge or Payhip/SendOwl subscriptions.
