I am starting a small new business, and I am by myself, so I don’t need a lot of things just to make the process go smoothly, so do I must have the point-of-sale app installed? I want to uninstall it. All I need to do is receive orders, fulfil them, and deliver them myself. That’s it, and even I have orders every now and then.
yes, using only cod for now.
Hey @yusufSaeed ,
Great question!
The Shopify Point of Sale (POS) app is designed to help businesses that have both online and physical storefronts. It’s a tool that allows you to manage your in-person sales alongside your online ones in a unified platform. However, if your business is strictly online and you’re not planning to sell in person or at any markets, you probably won’t need the POS app. Your needs – receiving orders, fulfilling them, and delivering them yourself – can all be handled through your Shopify Admin.
What do you sell? I’d love to hear more about your business! If you need any guidance during the set-up of your store, just remember that we have a variety of different resources at your fingertips to help build your business, including our Shopify Blog and our Shopify Learn channel. There are also a lot of different guides and tutorials for store owners listed on our Forum post here too, if you’re more of a visual learner and prefer video tutorials.
Let me know if I can clarify anything further,
why ?
Thank you, Moira. I think I did all the steps to setting up my store. Also, I did read a lot of articles in the Shopify help centre and from people like you trying to give us answers, and that is what got me here, but sometimes we need human interactions to give us the simple, specific answers that we need.
I am a wildlife photographer, and I will be selling my photographic arts as prints so people can hang them on walls, rooms, receptions, etc. I am starting domestically first to see the responses.
Also, when I was trying to uninstall POS, this notification displayed.
“Deleting the Point of Sale channel will mean you won’t be able to publish products, fulfil orders, or measure performance.” so I got a little worried. Is this okay?
That’s completely understandable! In the community we are here to answer any questions you may have.
The warning message you’re seeing is standard and is primarily meant for merchants who use the Shopify POS for their physical stores or for selling at events, markets, etc.
Since you’re selling your wildlife photography prints online and not in a physical location, you can safely delete the POS app. The functionalities mentioned in the warning (publishing products, fulfilling orders, measuring performance) are all still possible through the main Shopify platform without the POS app.
Tip: This step-by-step guide will teach you how to sell your art online, with advice from successful photographers, gallerists and painters.
Thank you, Moira. I am waiting to see you on Instagram. See my work here. @yusufwildphoto
Don’t hesitate to reach back out if you require any further assistance as you continue to work on your store.
All the best,
Right now, I think I did everything I needed, and I want to try a test order. I understood that there is a test mode, but I am only activating “Manual Payments” as COD for now, so how can I make a test order just to see the process?
thank you,
You are correct! You can place a test order by simulating a transaction through Shopify’s Bogus Gateway, or if you’re using Shopify Payments, then you can test your configuration by using Shopify Payments test mode.
Otherwise, if you only have manual payments set up, you would need to place an order as if you were a real customer. You can then cancel and refund the order afterwards.
The POS software sucks if you are going to use it in an actual store. I would look somewhere else.
