Does dropshipping require ordering stock or daily sales?

Hi! I am a bit confused, when you dropshipp, they say there is no costs and you dont need to worry about having a giant STOCK of products. But at the same time the manufacturers have a min-limited order, what i mean is, you have to order a certain amount of products. So the confusion is, do i need to order stock? Or do i need to have several sales everyday ? Or how does it work?

Hi @PelleP , thank you for your question. Regarding the “no-cost” definition for dropshipping, we think it’d be more exact to say it might cost you less than the other business models. In fact, you still need to invest a small amount of money to kickstart everything (the domain, fees for marketing, third-party apps, order a small number of items from expected suppliers to see if they can meet your requirements, etc).

When doing dropshipping business, you don’t control the quality of the products, the timeliness of delivery, or the appearance of the packaging. Due to those reasons, we suggest that you should always (1) keep track of your inventory; (2) have more than one supplier if possible (supposed that you have already confirmed your supplier’s credibility).

Hope this helps!

Hi @PelleP ,

Thank you for reaching out here. Staring any business can be overwhelming sometimes, so that’s completely normal. I’m excited to tell you a bit more about dropshipping.

Dropshipping is a business model that you can use to run your store without ever holding any inventory. Once you’ve made a sale, your supplier will ship your products from their warehouse straight to your customer’s doorstep. You’ll never need to worry about storing, packaging, or sending your products.

So,the beauty of dropshipping is that you don’t need to hold any inventory yourself. Just order it from your supplier once a customer has bought from you. But, as @irene-vintage mentioned, you have to consider some start-up costs like domain, Shopify subscription, marketing etc. Here is an excellent Oberlo guide on dropshipping start-up costs.Check it out here.

That said, it’s a good idea to buy sample products from your suppliers before uploading them to your online store to make sure you’re happy with the quality of the product and the supplier’s service.
