Doing refund and "item can't be restocked" anymore

Hi!

Hopefully someone can help me understand why I suddenly can’t get Shopify to do restock for me when I’m doing refunds. Usually Shopify have the checkbox “restock item” checked as default and successfully helping me updating the inventory.

For some reason I’m not able to get Shopify to do restock for me anymore. As the image shows, it says “Item can’t be restocked.”. Sadly I can’t find any relevant information searching for this.

I’ve recently exported all products to have them all imported again with new updated information “product type field” only. I did save the first download (the backup), and the information is exactly the same in both CSV:s (the exported and the imported).

Any ideas of what information that I could possibly have messed with? I would like to think that it’s the product variant id that is the unique key for refunds - other variant information or attributes must could have been changed without affecting this, right?

If you deleted the products, then re-imported them then they are technically different products with different IDs.

If you just updated the products, my guess would be that the location where the inventory was stocked at the time of the order is no longer available, or the product is not set to track inventory or set to be managed by that location.
