I am so exhausted with the sheer number of problems with this platform… It just never ends. It’s like they have entry level people handling all platform development and basic issues that should be simple becomes a headache.
Trying to connect an existing domain with Shopify is not possible with my hosting provider because Dreamhost required TWO nameservers while Shopify provides only ONE: 23.227.38.65
The A record and CNAME cannot be changed until the nameservers are changed too (see screencap).
Any information what the second nameserver is? It’s not possible to save only one nameserver.
You shouldn’t need to disclose Nameservers in order to connect your domain, only minor adjustments to the DNS settings are necessary. Nameservers allow the domain to be searched publicly by associating a name with an IP, this won’t assist with having your domain point to Shopify - only a DNS edit will.
I’d highly recommend that you speak to the support service for your domain provider and inquire about DNS edits and how to successfully edit those.
Tip: If you already own a custom domain, and you want to manage all your domain settings from your Shopify admin, then you can transfer your domain to Shopify. After you transfer your domain to Shopify, you no longer need to use the third-party domain service where you originally bought the domain.
