Electronic Medical Record Platform (EMR or EHR) integration with Shopify

Hi,

We have a client doing online ecommerce for prescription medication. The patients will require visit with doctor via telemedicine platform, and then using a EMR/EHR the doctor will write prescription that is then faxed to pharmacy.

Is there any EMR or EHR that integrates with Shopify, where once a patient puts order in Shopify, that user’s profile is also created inside EMR/EHR? Right now our process is manual, once customer places order, our doctor then looks at their Shopify customer detail and creates the customer inside the EMR/EHR, so it’s a redundant step if there is a direct integration here.

I think I may have found a possible solution for an EMR/EHR that integrates into Shopify and connects to a company that integrates that EMR/EHR and that distributes prescription medication along with nutraceuticals/supplements/vitamins. No EMR or EHR natively integrates with Shopify because Shopify is not a HIPAA compliant system. It can be made a part of a HIPAA-compliant system, but you need to separate out the Personal Health Information (PHI or ePHI).

If you are starting your process with a Shopify order, then that cannot contain any PHI. YOu can hook the account creation and force all users to start there, send it to an EMR / EHR system via a HIPAA-compliant separate app (e.g. we build broker apps that push/pull the data to the EMR).

For telehealth, the only way that you can allow someone to order a prescription product is to de-identify all of their info in Shopify.

This really only works for a few industries.

E.g.

Prescription eyeglasses where the prescription gets stored outside of Shopify and Shopify just contains the frame order.

Subscription-based autoship products where the order doesn’t change or one-time purchases. E.g. An autoship of a medicine identified as a non-human readable sku.

However, if the process is a customer comes to the site, selects a prescription product and checkouts on Shopify, then it is not HIPAA-complaint.
