Email Issue

My Shopify store is currently password-protected and hasn’t gone live yet. I’ve been editing the email templates, and when I use the ‘Send test email’ feature, the changes I made show up correctly. However, when a real email is triggered, such as through a test order, the changes don’t appear. I’m trying to figure out why the edits show up in test emails but not in the actual ones being sent. Shopify live support said they couldent help and go onto here.

@AL3DStudio This issue usually happens if the edits were made to the test email templates and not the live ones. Make sure you’re editing the actual templates under Settings > Notifications in your Shopify admin. Also, double-check that the edits are saved before testing again

Hi @AL3DStudio

If your Shopify email templates aren’t updating in real emails, but they work fine in test emails, you’re not alone. Shopify’s test email feature pulls from the template you’ve edited, but actual triggered emails sometimes follow a different path.

Here’s what might be happening:

  1. Old Templates Still in Use – Shopify might still be sending default versions instead of your updated ones. Try resetting and re-editing the template.
  2. Third-Party Apps Interfering – If you’re using any email automation apps (like Klaviyo or Omnisend), those might be overriding Shopify’s emails.
  3. Different Email Source – Some Shopify notifications (like order confirmations) use dynamic backend-generated versions, which might not pull in manual edits correctly.

How to Fix:- Manually Trigger a Real Email – Instead of a test email, try placing a real order (with a discount or refund after).

  • Check Email Logs – Use Shopify’s email history to compare what’s actually being sent.
  • Inspect Liquid Code – Sometimes, Shopify’s Liquid variables don’t update correctly. Try removing and re-adding elements to force a refresh.
  • Contact Shopify Again (With Screenshots) – If they brushed you off before, show them clear evidence of what’s happening.

Hope this can be helpful! Let me know if you have question.

Best regards,

Lang
