Emails on my personal account

Topic summary

A store owner is receiving unsolicited emails to their personal account (used to create their Shopify store), despite having a password-protected store and disabled contact form. The emails claim the store is on a list of poorly performing websites.

Key concerns:

  • Uncertain how senders obtained the email address
  • WHOIS is enabled, but email doesn’t appear in site code
  • Shopify Support provided limited help beyond recommending an anti-spam app

Advice given:

  • Ignore all suspicious emails and avoid clicking any links
  • Do not reply to these messages

Current status:
The issue remains unresolved. The store owner suspects the email may have been exposed elsewhere during store setup and hopes the emails will stop without further engagement.

I started receiving emails to my personal one, which is the one I created my Shopify.

Currently my store is password protected and the contact form is disabled. I also downloaded an app the support told me to avoid spams, but I don’t know. Replied to one email and the person (as it seems is not a bot), told me that my email is on a list with websites that are not performing good. But how did they find my email?

I don’t know what exactly I can do to stop them from coming and the Shopify Support wasn’t helpful at all.

Hey there @dimitrisxp my safest advice for you for now would be to ignore all such emails and avoid replying to them especially any one that might require to click on any suspicious links of any kind.

Thank you!
Whois is enabled and I checked the code and my email isn’t anywhere there.
Probably I have used it somewhere else when I was creating the store and
obviously it was visible.

Is there a chance that they will stop if they don’t receive replies?
