Exceeded maximum number of variants allowed

Ok so im new to Shopify and all was going well until it came to adding 20 different colours with 8 different sizes.

Thinking that it would implement a drop down for each option it has now created Colour A/36, Colour A/38 and so on. Now I have multiples of each colour/size, a total of 160 which has resulted in exceeding the limit.

Is there a way to have a drop down box to select colour, and another for size? If not I might as well cancel and look elsewhere.

You can add only maximum of 100 variants per product.
