Feature Request: Add local delivery option

Topic summary

A retailer requests adding a dedicated local delivery option to the POS system. Currently, only “ship entire order” is available, which triggers misleading courier shipping emails to customers who are actually receiving local delivery.

Key issues identified:

  • Confusion between local delivery and courier shipping on both POS and online checkout
  • Missing push notifications for shipping orders to POS (local delivery notifications already exist)

Requested features:

  1. Separate POS options for courier shipping vs. local delivery
  2. Push notifications for shipping items with toggle control for users who want/don’t want them

Proposed workaround:
Create a custom POS tile or quick action button labeled “Local Delivery” that tags orders with special notes or metafields, allowing internal differentiation and filtering without using the shipping flow.

The discussion remains open with no official response yet.

Currently on the POS we can ONLY select ‘ship entire order’ to customer. This starts a cascade of confusing emails to our clients who most definitely are not getting a courier shipping their order. It’s already confusing enough for both us and the customer on the online checkout page for where they select delivery vs shipping.

On the POS we need an option to 1) ship to a customer with a courier [this already exists], and 2) select local delivery [this does not exist].

We also need push notifications for shipping items to come to the POS. That’s been a request for years. You already push local delivery notifications, why not push the shipping as well? Set it as a toggle so users who don’t want that notification on the POS don’t see it and users who need it can see it.

Hi @petgrocer

A workaround would be to create a custom POS tile or quick action button named say “Local Delivery” and tag such orders with a special order note or metafield. This allows us to differentiate them internally without entering the “shipping” flow. You can then (outside of “Ship to Customer”) say, filter and “fulfill” as such.
