Feature request - product duplicate & purchase order

Topic summary

A Shopify store manager requests three workflow improvements:

1. Product Duplication Settings:
Currently, duplicating products automatically checks all options (SKU, barcode, inventory quantities), which creates operational problems. The request is to have all options unchecked by default, allowing managers to manually select what to duplicate and avoid accidental duplication of critical data like SKUs and inventory counts.

2. Purchase Order Auto-Population:
Suggests auto-populating existing product costs from the database (displayed in grey) on purchase order pages, enabling managers to quickly compare and update costs on the spot.

3. Available Quantity Display:
Requests showing current available quantities directly on the purchase order page. This would eliminate the need to navigate back and forth between inventory and purchase order pages to determine ordering quantities, particularly beneficial for small retailers.

A Shopify representative acknowledged the feedback and confirmed these requests have been filed internally. Additional users supported the duplication feature request, also asking for one-click URL image additions and automatic return of checked SKU/Barcode fields.

Dear Shopify,

It’ll greatly improve our workflow as shop managers if you could include the following.

  1. Product Duplicate - “UNCHECK” all options during duplicate pop up dialogue box as per previous update, to reduce workflow clicks, let us decide what the ‘duplicate’ rather than making a mistake of having unwanted/unaware duplicate info. Duplicating SKU/Barcode & Inventory Quantities by default causes many problems for store operations, just doesn’t make sense unless there is a rare need to remove the old product to be replaced with a new product info.

  2. Purchase order Cost - you can pull up existing product cost from the db, to be auto populated in grey, and let managers make the cost compare/changes on the spot to shorten workflow.

  3. Purchase order Qty - for small retailers, working offsite, possible to also pull up to display currently available quantities so managers don’t need to go back and forth checking inventories of individual items to gauge what qty to place order. From Inventory page, managers can clearly see what products need to be order soon, and checking the relevant product boxes to create a purchase order is convenient. But once at the purchase order page, there is a need to reference individual product qty available and qty to order. Having qty available shown on the purchase order page will reduce workflow steps.

thanks

Hi there, @teekay05 !

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us here!

I have been able to file these requests for you internally based on the info you shared above.

Thanks again for taking the time to let us know about this.

+1 to the uncheck all when duplicating products.

Allow us to add images via URL in one click too and not so many clicks to get there.

And please return the checked SKU/Barcode field instead of us having to check it again.
