with the filter option removed from the collection editor, there’s no longer a built-in way to filter the product list by status directly within a collection page. This has made editing on the back end very difficult and much more time consuming.
This is a known pain point since the collection editor’s status filter was removed. Two workarounds that restore most of the workflow: (1) Do your filtering from the main Products page — you can filter by status (Active/Draft/Archived), vendor, type, etc., and even filter by collection there, then edit from that view. (2) For status specifically within one collection, create a temporary automated collection with conditions (e.g., “Product tag” or a status-based smart collection) to isolate what you need. Neither is as convenient as the in-collection filter, so it’s worth adding your voice on the Shopify ideas board to push for it back.
A workaround : rebuild the same view from the Products page.
It filters by collection and status at the same time, and lets you bulk edit from there.
Do this
- Open Products in the left menu (not the collection).
- Click the search and filter bar, add the filter Collection, and pick your collection.
- Click the bar again, add the filter Status, and choose Active, Draft or Archived.
- The list now shows only that status inside that collection.
You’re absolutely right, removing the inline filters from the collection editor has added extra friction to backend management, especially when trying to spot Draft or Archived products within large collections.
While Shopify rolled out this layout update, here are two effective workarounds to filter products by status efficiently:

Filter via the main Products Directory:
Go to Admin > Products.Click on Search and filter (or the filter icon).
Add a filter for Collection and select your specific collection.
Add a second filter for Status and choose Active, Draft, or Archived.
Save this view by clicking Save as at the top so you can access it in 1 click whenever you need to edit this collection’s products.

Use Bulk Editor via URL Parameters:
From the Products page, select all products in the collection and click Bulk edit.
Alternatively, you can bookmark custom search URLs for your high-priority collections with status filters pre-applied.

One practical workaround is to go to the Products section and create a saved view with the status you want, e.g., Active or Draft. That way, you can filter products here and do a bulk edit of the products you want, rather than opening a collection and working your way down a list that could be very long. If you find yourself frequently working with the same collection, a saved view for the right status with your collection condition will make your workflow much quicker. It’s not as handy as having the fillter in the collection editor, but it does reduce the amount of extra manual work considerably.
Hey @Danielle_Williams, the Products page covers this - it’ll filter by Collection and by Status at the same time. Go to Products, click Add filter, choose Collection and pick yours, then add Statuses and tick active, draft or archived. Hit Save as, give it a name, and that filtered list becomes a permanent tab in the search bar, so it’s one click from then on. The bulk editor and bulk actions both run on the filtered selection, so open the tab and check the product count matches what you expect before you start editing.
