I am not a Shopify vendor, but rather a consumer. I recently had a charge on my credit card that has a 9 digit Shopify transaction number, but do not recall the charge. Is there a way for the consumer to find out which vendor charged his or her credit card, in order to find out if it is fraudulent?
Thank you for reaching out about this. I understand you have some unknown charges on your card and it appears to come from Shopify or possibly a merchant using our services.
If the charge is for a Shopify platform fee then these will generally look similar to this “Shopify*##########” with 8-10 numbers after the asterix. If this is a charge from a specific store you may have shopped at, then generally the charge descriptor will have the business name. The default for stores built on Shopify is to have their descriptor be part of the their business name and not Shopify’s. Charge descriptors can be changed by the merchant.
If you believe this charge is a Shopify billing fee and you do not have a business hosted on our platform then please report this charge to your bank or credit card company right away as your banking details may have been compromised.
Thank you very much. Since the format followed the Shopify Billing Platform Fee, and since I don’t have a Shopify business, I’ll report to the credit card company.
Since the charge was for $399.00 I believe that someone may have used my card to sign up for a monthly plan. Is there a way that I can contact Shopify to make sure that my card is not maintained on file?
I TOO have a charge from a Shopify vendor, and am not a seller myself. Please let me know how I can ensure there is no continued charges from this store on my card.
