They just established the domain under namecheap in July 2026 - the money was taken out of my account under the name mohammed abdulg adir cardiff from the UK. I am pretty internet savvy but I admit this one scammed me - they said they had 35,000 great reviews from Shopify. I am about to open a Shopify store myself - but this has me concerned.
Sorry that happened, and to answer your question directly: that email address doesn’t tell you much. g.shopifyemail.com is just Shopify’s default sending domain, so any store on the platform sends from something like that when it hasn’t set up its own sender address. It confirms they were using Shopify, nothing more, it isn’t an endorsement and it doesn’t mean Shopify vetted them. Same with the “35,000 reviews from Shopify” claim, that isn’t a thing Shopify issues, so that was pure invention on their part.
The important part: Shopify has a Report a Merchant form for exactly this, so use it rather than only posting here, since this forum is merchants and partners and can’t action anything. Search “Shopify report a merchant” or find it in the Help Center, and give them the store domain, your order number, the date, the amount, and that sender address. That gets it to the team who can actually investigate and shut the store down. Alongside it, raise a chargeback with your bank or card provider straight away, that’s your realistic route to getting the money back, and it’s a strong case since nothing ever shipped. In the UK you can also report it to Action Fraud, and since the domain is on Namecheap, a report to their abuse team is worth doing too.

And you discovered some red flags, like domain age. But you just placed the order and did not get your order. When you ordered, did you know from which company you were ordering? Is it a company or an individual? I just found, buried in some policy page, a residential address form for Cardif, but that could be a fake address too.
To repeat what Moeed said, just because it is a Shopify store, you do not have to trust it 100%. And for reviews, again not from Shopify. That is your understanding but that tricked you. Note: on the product page, at the top, they say “53,000+ Verified Reviews” but after in a few places 35.000+. That should be a small red flag.
It is just a random number, and there is no way you can verify that. They do not use any app or service. There are none on Trustpilot, for example.
But they look like that is not the first scam store they opened and closed; holidays are a good opportunity, as discounts do not sound fake. Plus that Shrine theme is a good one as a base. But a lot of scammers use that one as they get it for free online. If you have some time, check Warning about the seasonal scam spike
So yeah, there are a lot of scam/fake stores; you have to be careful. Shopify tries to fight that, but I think they could do more. Note: for a refund, the bank is the only option.
